Souvenirs at Lanta Orchid Nursery |
| |
"I
have many visitors, who
come to buy an orchid plant to place
it in their hotel room or hang it
on the verandah of their bungalow
to enjoy the beautiful flowers during
their stay on Lanta Island. I always
have some beautiful orchid hybrids
as well as some native orchids that
we successfully grew from seeds
available.
However,
as it might not be allowed to import
certain species, especially orchids,
into some foreign countries, I decided
to sell bottles with living orchids.
They are grown from seeds in a sterile
bottle and therefore exempted from
any CITES regulation. They contain
4 plants and I normally have a choice
of 5 or 6 different species available.
Each bottle comes with a detailed
instruction for care of orchid seedlings
in English, Swedish, German, French,
Czech and Russian language. To download,
please

Other
guests asked me for souvenirs
that are related to orchids but
easier to take home than the flowers.
So I decided to look around and
found some things.
I
started to sell small artificial
orchids that I ordered similar to
the real ones. They are made from
'Japanese Clay' and are looking
so natural that some visitors at
first glance do not believe they
are artificial.
I
also have marvelous jewelry creations.
They are made from real
orchids, which have been covered
with a protective coating and are
then lowered into tanks of base
metal for 12-14 hours, depending
on the orchids' size and form. This
preserves the flower's real shape
and gives the flower strength. After
optimum strength is reached, jewelry
accessories are soldered onto the
plated pieces and then undergo further
electroplating for additional strength,
some with a final plating of 24K
gold.
Floating
candles in the shape of
different orchid flowers are also
on sale and are nice little gifts.
They produce a light fragrance when
burning and it is easy to handle
them, as they can be burnt floating
in a cup of water.
When
more and more visitors
asked for something special, I started
to sell other small souvenirs that
I found nice and beautiful handcrafted.
If you have some special requests,
please ask me. Many things are made
by artisans on Lanta Island and
can easily designed to your request
within a few days.
I
also have 'Miss
Udorn Sunshine' for
sale, the only perfume in the world
that uses orchids as raw material.
This perfume is a very special gift
and a typical reminder to your holiday
in Thailand."
Mr.
Pradit Kham-Phoemphun is
famous for his successful breeding
of an orchid that has fragrant flowers
and blooms all year round. This
orchid originated from his experimental
crossing of a Vanda Josephine with
a Vanda denisoniana from the forests
of Northern Thailand in 1976.
His
persevering effort yielded
a beautiful, sweet smelling orchid
for him 10 years later. After the
province, in which he lived for
many years (Udon Thani), he named
this Vanda orchid Miss Udorn Sunshine.
Following
this success, Mr. Pradit
co-operated with several government
agencies to establish a company
to produce perfume from the orchid
under the brand name Miss Udorn
Sunshine. This is, and remains the
only perfume factory in the world
that uses orchids as raw material.
Visit
Lanta Orchid Nursery to
buy one bottle of perfume as a very
special gift and a typical memory
to your holiday in Thailand. |
